  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Support & Pre-Therapy Consulting

Treating mental health disorders is not a “one size fits all” solution, and the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is no exception.

While it should be noted that according to law, only mental health professionals are allowed to diagnose you with PTSD in South Africa, there are a variety of treatment and therapy options available to those struggling with the disorder.

At PTSD SA we have a lot of experience and valuable information we can share prior to you deciding on a course of action regarding your therapy or treatment.

At PTSD SA we know that living with the disorder can be an extremely isolating experience, and starting treatment/therapy may seem futile. However we also know that healing, and a return to a productive, fulfilled and happy life is possible for anyone caught in the darkness of their own mind.

From Clinical Psychology Therapy Sessions, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Kinesiology Therapy to Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy, we can advise on a therapy/treatment programme that will suit your specific needs.

We can assist with contact details for mental health professionals or treatment specialists in your area, and we will also share valuable information on the physiological effect that PTSD can have on your body, and suggest ways to alleviate symptoms.

  • Trauma Counselling and Victim Empowerment

It is of utmost importance to receive trauma counselling or debriefing after a traumatic event. When someone survives an intense or life-threatening situation, psychological issues may occur that necessitate therapy. The trauma may have caused intense emotions such as fear, guilt or anger, as well as a sense of loss of control that can cause an overwhelming fight-flight-freeze-fawn response in other situations. At PTSD SA we have therapists and victim empowerment counsellors that can assist you to process and reframe your trauma, allowing you to move forward and live a happy, fulfilled and meaningful life.

  • PTSD Awareness/Public Speaking engagements

PTSD SA founder, Johann Hattingh, worked as a photo-journalist for 17 years, both as staff photographer and freelancer for various newspapers, publications, international news-wire agencies and the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, covering assignments in places like South Africa, Ethiopia, Iraq, the Sudan, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Korea, Netherlands, Spain, New Zealand and United Kingdom.

He was diagnosed with PTSD in 2007, and battled the disorder for 12 years before finally getting the help he needed in the form of Psychedelic-assisted PsychoTherapy, which saved his life.

As a means of raising awareness about the disorder, battling the stigma attached to it and showing those struggling with PTSD that there is a way to to get help, Johann is available for public speaking engagements to share his story of how the trauma he experienced affected him, how he got sick, and how he ultimately found a way back to a productive, fulfilled and happy life.
